Top-Level Domain Zone File Information

Top-Level Domain (TLD) zone files are files maintained by Verisign that map active second-level domain names with the Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of the name server for the domain name.

A separate file is maintained for each of the .com and .net TLDs. The TLD Zone Files do not contain domain names in the following states: server hold, client hold, pendingdelete, and redemptionperiod. In addition, the TLD Zone Files do not contain any domain names that do not have name servers associated with them.

Domain Name Base

The domain name base is the active zone plus the number of domain names that are registered but not configured for use in the respective Top-Level Domain zone file plus the number of domain names that are in a client or server hold status.

The domain name base and the active zone change frequently and are updated on this page at least once per day. The update times may vary each day. Today’s domain name base is not necessarily indicative of results that may be expected for the current financial quarter or year.

The daily domain name base provided on this page may not be comparable to domain name counts we disclose elsewhere. The domain name base may also reflect compensated or uncompensated judicial or administrative actions to add to or remove from the active zone an immaterial number of domain names.

Apply for Continued TLD Zone File Access for .name

On Dec. 6, 2021, Verisign and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) entered into the Fifth Amendment to the .name Registry Agreement pursuant to which Verisign operates the .name top-level domain. Pursuant to Amendment 5, Verisign is required to transition all existing .name zone file access users to ICANN’s Centralized Zone Data Service (CZDS).

After April 11, 2022 at 23:59:59 UTC, VERISIGN WILL NO LONGER PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE .NAME ZONE FILES FOR NEW USERS VIA Verisign’s registry FTP site and access to the .name zone file for new users will be offered solely via the CZDS portal, which is located at czds.icann.org.

If you are an existing .name zone file user, and are interested in continuing to access the .name zone file after your zone file access agreement expires, or if you are a prospective .name zone file user, please visit the CZDS portal on or after April 12, 2022, where you will be required to create a CZDS account (if you do not already have one) and submit a request for access to the .name zone file via the CZDS. If you already have a CZDS account, you may submit your request for access to the .name zone file via the CZDS using that account.

The Centralized Zone Data Service

Access to the zone files for the .com, .net and .name TLD and all other Verisign-operated generic TLDs is available through ICANN’s Centralized Zone Data Service (CZDS).

If you are interested in applying for access to the zone file(s) for the .com, .net and .name TLD and/or other Verisign-operated generic TLDs, please visit the CZDS portal at czds.icann.org and follow the instructions located there to submit a request for access.
