Secure Site Silver Seal FAQ
General
Q: Why is VeriSign releasing a new Secure Site Seal?
A: As the leader in providing trust on the
Internet, we are constantly improving our competencies and product offerings
to customers. We have re-designed the VeriSign brand of Web site trust
and security, and based on independent research studies, consumers consistently
judged this new design to be more noticeable and instill a stronger
sense of trust. New Seal features include:
The new Seal is served directly from VeriSign
servers after checking the validity of the site's certificate. If the
certificate has expired or is otherwise invalid, the Seal will not be
displayed on the site.
The new Seal uses a dynamic, animated design
that is more appealing and recognizable to your customers and is harder
to spoof by fraudulent users.
The new Seal displays your authenticated organization
name right on the Seal so your customers can be assured of your site's
authenticity at a glance.
Q: How much does the new Secure Site Seal cost?
A: Just like the current Seal, the new Seal
is included free-of-charge with a VeriSign SSL certificate.
Installation and Display
Q: What are the system requirements for the new Secure Site Seal?
A: The new Seal uses JavaScript and can be
served from VeriSign with or without Flash content. The Flash content
provides the animation and is preferred by a vast majority of VeriSign
SSL customers. However, if your Web site does not allow Flash content,
there is a non-Flash version of the seal available.
Refer to the installation instructions for
further details.
Q. Where can I insert the new Seal?
A: The Seal can be inserted and displayed on
any Web page within the domain enrolled for your VeriSign SSL certificate.
Insert the Seal within your Web site wherever you want your Web site
visitors to be aware of your site's authenticity and security, such
as:
On your home page, easily found near other
Web site information and links.
On any page that is SSL-enabled, easily visible
at the top of the page.
On other pages and locations within your Web
site as you see fit.
Generally, it is best to insert the Seal in
a location clearly visible to your Web site visitors, without having
to scroll down the page to see it.
Q. What size Seal should I use?
A: Use the Seal that best fits within your
page layout. There are three different sizes to choose from.
Q: When should I use the transparent background?
A: We recommend that you use the transparent
background for a better look and feel on your Web page. If your page
has a dark background, then we recommend you using the Seal version
with a background so the Seal is easily visible.
Q: Can I customize the Secure Site Seal?
A: Do not modify the Secure Site Seal in any
way. Your unique Seal is a symbol of your Web site's authenticity and
security, and any change to it diminishes its value. To best display
the Seal on your Web site, we offer three sizes to choose from, as well
as a transparent or white background option.
Refer to the installation instructions for
further details.
Q: Why does my organization name get cut off on the displayed Seal?
A: The Seal can display your organization name
on up to two lines of approximately 16 characters each. Any remaining
characters at the end of the second line are not displayed on the Seal.
However, the full organization name always appears on the Seal splash
page when a customer clicks the Seal.

Q: How do I provide feedback for the new Secure Site Seal?
