Strong encryption and digital signing applications - PKWARE,
Inc. offers:
The Solution Description
SecureZIP is a data security product, based
on the widely adopted ZIP file format that works seamlessly with VeriSign’s
Managed PKI Service and the Multipurpose Next-generation Token.
SecureZIP combines digital signing with strong encryption for secure
file storage and transfer. SecureZIP files can be encrypted with
either certificates or passwords, making them interoperable across both
PKI and non-PKI environments. A free ZIP Reader product enables
external recipients to easily process SecureZIP files. SecureZIP
integrates with LDAP-compliant directories for seamless access to digital
certificates and allows for centralized enforcement of security policies
through an Administrative Module. SecureZIP offers seamless
integration with Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes for digital signing
and strong encryption of email attachments.
Compelling Reason
SecureZIP enables enterprise organizations
to leverage their investment in PKI by offering an award-winning easy-to-implement,
easy-to-use file encryption and digital signing solution for data in
transit or at rest. SecureZIP interoperates across all popular
enterprise computing platforms and facilitates seamless transfer of
secured information between PKI and non-PKI security infrastructures,
regardless of mode of data transfer. An enterprise that has implemented
PKI can use SecureZIP to leverage their investment across all users
and platforms – from desktops to mainframes. And because it’s
based on the widely used ZIP file format, SecureZIP overcomes many of
the adoption, usability and interoperability issues that have traditionally
hindered broad scale implementation of PKI.
Application Example
A large Credit Card Processor (CCP) needed
to send digitally signed and encrypted transaction reports to their
hundreds of thousands of merchant customers. Encryption was required
to protect the transaction information – credit card numbers, date and
amount of purchase, etc., from online theft in compliance with Visa’s
Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP). Digital signing
was used to validate the origin and integrity of the content of the
reports. Most of the merchants did not have digital certificates
for use in the CCP’s file encryption operation. Working with PKWARE,
the CCP developed an online process for merchants to authenticate themselves,
after which they received a digital certificate and a read-only version
of SecureZIP (ZIP Reader). The merchants’ public keys were automatically
published to the CCP’s “merchant partition” in a directory server within
their internal network. Using SecureZIP on desktops, servers and
mainframes across their organization, the CCP was able to quickly deploy
the Secure Transaction Reporting System, achieving their goal with no
interruption in service to their merchant customers.
Product Description
PKWARE’s SecureZIP solutions extend the widely
adopted ZIP standard to include strong encryption and authentication.
SecureZIP enables the efficient and secure transfer and storage of information
across disparate computing platforms, networks, and organizations.
With support for both certificate and password-based
encryption, SecureZIP can be deployed across both PKI and non-PKI environments,
effectively bridging the gap between those who have digital certificates
and those who do not. In addition, free ZIP Reader software is available
so that all intended recipients can open SecureZIP - protected files,
even those who have not purchased a PKWARE product. ZIP Reader
may be downloaded from PKWARE’s website or can be distributed by a company
to its partners via a custom co-branded website.
SecureZIP works seamlessly within an organization’s
PKI environment, with certificates easily accessible from a central
directory via an LDAP interface. An administrative module provides
the capability to “lock down” security options for an entire organization
or for individual workgroups.
SecureZIP provides “persistent security”, meaning
information is protected in storage as well as during transfer over
networks. And because SecureZIP is built on the ZIP data compression
standard, organizations can actually reduce the size of files – even
after encryption – to save bandwidth and storage space.
PKWARE products span all major enterprise platforms
including Microsoft Windows®, UNIX (Solaris, HP-UX and AIX), Linux,
IBM iSeries midrange, and zSeries mainframe systems, providing the convenience
of a single vendor for the deployment of organization-wide data protection.
