150 Million VeriSign Seals Viewed on Cyber
Monday
Record Number of Impressions Represents 50 Percent Increase from Previous
Record Set Last Year
Mountain View, CA – December 5, 2007 – VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:
VRSN), the leading provider of digital infrastructure for the networked
world, today announced that online consumers saw over 150 million instances
of the VeriSign seal as they shopped on Cyber Monday, one of the busiest
Internet shopping days of the year. The one-day total reached on Monday,
Nov. 26, is an all-time record and represents a 50 percent increase
over last year’s 100 million impression milestone.
The VeriSign Secured Seal, which includes the
widely recognized “VeriSign check mark,” is a common fixture on Web
pages of leading online merchants, financial services providers and
other business. The seal indicates that the Web page is secured by VeriSign
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificates and is recognized worldwide
as a symbol of trust and online security.
“As online shopping becomes an increasingly
essential channel for retailers – not just during the holidays but every
day of the year – merchants are under growing pressure to demonstrate
that their Web sites are safe and secure,” said Chris Babel, senior
vice president, SSL, VeriSign. “As the most recognized seal on
the Web, the VeriSign Secured Seal offers invaluable reassurance to
consumers in search of a trusted place to make online purchases. That’s
one reason more than 90,000 domains in 145 countries around the world
rely on the VeriSign Secured Seal to communicate their commitment to
delivering a secure Internet experience.”
Seventy-nine percent of U.S. online shoppers
are familiar with the VeriSign Secured Seal, more than any other mark.
The VeriSign Secured Seal signals that a Web site is using an authentic
VeriSign Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate. More than 93 percent
of the Fortune 500 – and the world’s 40 largest banks – rely on some
form of VeriSign SSL Certificate to meet their security needs.
The VeriSign Secured Seal has been tested and proven to increase transactions
by approximately 10 percent.2 Learn more about the VeriSign Secured
