VeriSign and KickApps Collaborate to Power
VeriSign® Social Media Solution
Social Media Platform Combined with VeriSign Digital Infrastructure
Enables Web Publishers to Offer Richer Multiplatform Experience
CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment, San Francisco, CA - October
23, 2007 – VeriSign (NASDAQ: VRSN), the leading provider
of digital infrastructure for the networked world, and KickApps, the
leading hosted social media platform, today announced a strategic alliance
aimed at giving Web publishers easy access to a community building platform
and unique mobile media uploading. As part of the alliance, VeriSign
has integrated the KickApps hosted social media platform within the
VeriSign® Social Media Solution.
New functionality showcased by the two companies at
CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2007 enables web publishers to
extend social media experiences beyond a broadband computer and onto
mobile handsets. Because the solution also incorporates VeriSign’s Intelligent
CDN and Mobile
Content Delivery Network, Web publishers and media and entertainment
companies looking to deploy social media features on existing sites
can extend the online community experience across multiple screens.
“Leading entertainment companies and Web publishers
are looking for new ways to generate quality page views, which in turn
lead to more revenue,” said Stephen Condon, vice president, media and
entertainment for VeriSign. “With an integrated broadband and
mobile CDN, the VeriSign Social Media Solution makes it easy for any
Web publisher to create a compelling and unique experience for customers
– across multiple screens. The unique solution supports a wide range
of delivery options, including downloads, streaming, peer-assisted delivery,
SMS and MMS.”
The companies demonstrated the mobile uploading of
video and photos to KickApps hosted social media site. Using the mobile
phone, community members simply select and upload the video or photo
they wish to share on the community site. VeriSign and KickApps created www.motorheadrally.tv
to demonstrate this capability to attendees of the event.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates KickApps’ ongoing
commitment to eliminating barriers to entry for any Web publisher and
developer wishing to leverage social media,” said Alex Blum, CEO of
KickApps. “With this new mobile functionality, people no longer need
to limit their online social interactions to just their computers, rather
they’ll be able to share photos and videos of things that they find
interesting from wherever they are, instantly.”
The KickApps hosted social media platform allows publishers
to easily create and deploy social and rich media powered online communities
on their existing websites. Anchored around social networking, user-generated
content, programmable video players, Widgets for content syndication,
and a content and community management backbone, the white label platform
is highly customizable to match the look and feel of the publisher’s
website, providing a feature-rich, branded social media experience as
users navigate between a publisher’s website and its KickApps hosted
community.
“We chose to collaborate with KickApps to bring this
solution to market because they have a tremendous amount of expertise
and success in hosting white label social media platforms for leading
media and entertainment companies,” said Condon.
