VeriSign Extends Executive Team as Part of
Strategy to Pursue New Opportunities with Focus and Discipline
Grant Clark Joins Company as Chief Administrative Officer; Kevin Werner
to Drive Strategic Development
Mountain View, CA – October 3, 2007 –VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ:
VRSN), the leading provider of digital infrastructure for the networked
world, today announced it is extending its executive team with the addition
of Grant L. Clark and Kevin A. Werner. Both long-time industry
veterans, Clark and Werner join VeriSign after holding senior executive
posts at SAIC.
Clark joins VeriSign as senior vice president and
chief administrative officer, with primary responsibility for improving
VeriSign’s business processes. Working from VeriSign’s Dulles, VA offices,
Clark also will oversee the company’s operational and risk management
activities.
Werner, as VeriSign’s new senior vice president of
corporate development and strategy, will be responsible for VeriSign’s
strategic development activities. His focus will include acquisitions,
joint ventures, complex business transactions, and divestitures.
“As VeriSign continues to mature as an industry leader
and innovator, it’s essential that our own corporate structure and business
processes evolve along with the world’s digital infrastructure,” said
Bill Roper, president and chief executive officer of VeriSign. “Both
Grant and Kevin have proven, hands-on experience in shepherding high-growth
organizations through the kind of financial and operational milestones
that shape a company’s future for years to come. I look forward to their
contributions as we work with our talented global workforce to bring
increased focus and discipline to VeriSign’s growth model.”
Clark has been with SAIC for 13 years, most recently
serving as senior vice president, director of contracts, and chief deputy
counsel. While at SAIC, he was responsible for contract law and management
across multiple continents, and for corporate risk assessment and mitigation.
From 1999-2004, Clark was senior vice president and general counsel
of Telcordia Technologies, an SAIC subsidiary. He previously was principal
legal advisor to SAIC subsidiary Network Solutions, guiding that company
through the establishment of its domain name business in the commercial
infancy of the Internet. Earlier in his career, Clark was a member of
the national law firm McKenna Long & Aldridge. He also served with
the law firm of former U.S. Senator Birch Bayh, and was an assistant
general counsel with the General Services Administration. Clark began
his career as an Air Force judge advocate and held a concurrent appointment
as a special assistant U.S. attorney. Clark is a graduate of Suffolk
Law School and received his B.A. in English from Framingham State College.
Werner brings to VeriSign two decades of experience
in evaluating strategic objectives, and in structuring, negotiating
and closing complex transactions. Since 2004, he served as SAIC’s senior
vice president and director of strategic development activities, during
which time he negotiated and closed strategic acquisitions and the divestiture
of non-strategic business units. From 2000-2004, he was president and
managing director of SAIC Venture Capital Corporation, where he managed
a $1.3 billion corporate venture capital fund with a portfolio of 60
investments in early stage technology companies. Werner joined SAIC
as associate general counsel in 1995. Prior to SAIC, he spent 10 years
at Seltzer Caplan McMahon & Vitek, becoming a partner in 1990. Werner
