VeriSign and AirMagnet Launch New Managed
Service to Prevent Wireless Data Theft
For Companies in Financial Services, Public Sector, Health Care and
Retail Industries, Wireless Intrusion Prevention Service Adds Layer
of Security to Protect Sensitive Data 24x7
Gartner IT Security Summit 2007, Washington D.C. – June 4, 2007 –
VeriSign, the leading provider of digital infrastructure for the networked
world, and AirMagnet, an award-winning leader in wireless network assurance
solutions, today launched the VeriSign Wireless Intrusion Prevention
Service (IPS), the first comprehensive service designed to effectively
shield rapidly growing corporate wireless networks from theft and other
security threats. Through a new strategic partnership with AirMagnet,
VeriSign Managed Security Services (MSS) maximizes the ability of intrusion
prevention technology to protect both wireless and wired networks.
“Today’s workforces are increasingly on the move,
and for many organizations, that means either securing the wireless
LAN or forcing employees to give up wireless devices altogether,” said
Mike Denning, vice president, Security Services, VeriSign. “Preventing
wireless intrusion can be time-consuming and expensive, and presents
some unique complexities beyond those associated with securing a wired
network. VeriSign Wireless IPS protects every corner of the network
because it correlates both wired and wireless data, providing the most
complete risk management solution for VeriSign MSS customers.”
“VeriSign Wireless IPS is a groundbreaking managed
service that comprehensively addresses a pressing need in today’s enterprise,
particularly finance, health care and retail,” said Dean Au, CEO of
AirMagnet. “As more organizations make wireless technology a vital element
in how business is done, VeriSign Wireless IPS will help ensure that
their business is secure and meets compliance requirements. We’re proud
to collaborate with VeriSign to bring this service to market.”
VeriSign Wireless IPS helps customers design, deploy,
manage and monitor wireless intrusion prevention systems. The new service
offers enterprises a host of benefits, including:
- Holistic view
of network. By combining AirMagnet technology with VeriSign Teraguard,
companies can now for the first time, integrate IPS for both wireless
and wired networks.
- Expert design
and implementation. VeriSign Global Consulting Service ensures
that wireless IPS devices are architected, configured, staged, and tested
before deployment.
- Managed deployment.
VeriSign’s expert staff monitors security and device health 24 hours
a day, every day. The Enterprise Security Portal provides a detailed
view of a customer's security devices under VeriSign management.
- Unparalleled
security intelligence. By leveraging VeriSign’s iDefense global
network of threat experts, the new service provides security intelligence
on every aspect of a wireless LAN.
- Improved compliance.
The new service includes support from the VeriSign Global Security Consulting
team, which helps large enterprises meet HIPAA, GLBA, PCI and other
regulatory assessments.
- Lower operating
costs. VeriSign’s managed service model allows companies to redeploy
staffing, and reduce training, maintenance and upfront capital expenses.
“Wireless LANs are entering mainstream but there is
a shortage of skills for managing the networks and threats and issues
surrounding them,” said Rachna Ahlawat, Research Director of Wireless
at Gartner. “There is a need in the market for MSS Providers (MSSPs)
that can extend services to include WLAN’s security and management.”
VeriSign Wireless IPS is the latest addition to VeriSign’s
Managed Security Services, a part of the VeriSign Layered Security Services
Solution, a comprehensive approach to securing business interactions
on the Internet, and which encompasses protecting a company’s consumers,
brand, Web site, and network. VeriSign Layered Security Services is
a portfolio of consulting and managed technology services help companies
minimize the complexity, risk, and opportunity costs of trying to keep
pace with the contradictory demands for greater ease of access and tighter
security.
VeriSign Wireless IPS is currently available in North
America and will be available in Europe fall of 2007.
