VeriSign Introduces Online Domain Name Management Console For Enterprise Customers

New Web-Based Management Interface Simplifies Protection, Promotion, Control and Reporting of Online Brands for Brand Managers, IP Attorneys, Law Firms and Advertising Agencies

International Trademark Association Annual Meeting, San Francisco, CA., May 7, 2001 - VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading provider of Internet trust services, today announced the introduction of a new enterprise-grade Domain Name Management console which will provide customers with an online interface to VeriSign's managed corporate domain name services. The web-based console has been designed to simplify and streamline the search, registration, renewal and management of domain names in both generic top-level domains (gTLDs)-such as .com, .net, .org -as well as over 350 country-code domains (ccTLDs) such as .fr, .jp and .uk. This provides businesses with a single view of all of their online identities to ensure that they are adequately protecting their intellectual property while also staking out localized presence for their global marketing initiatives.

"In the increasingly complex Internet environment, large companies, law firms and advertising agencies do not have the technical capabilities or resources to effectively manage online brand identities," said Maigread Eichten, vice president of VeriSign's Corporate Domain Name Services group. "Our new Domain Name Management console provides customers with a single view into the management of their online brand assets on a global basis, with a seamless link to our back-end managed services which register and acquire critical web addresses, worldwide, on their behalf."

In addition to the popular .com, .net, and .org, there are more than 350 specific country-code domains such as .de, .it, and .tv in which a product name, company name, brand or other identity may be registered. Further, with the advent of new "multilingual" domain names, new emerging top-level domains (e.g., .info ) and VeriSign's new WebNum™ service which provides numeric short-cuts for wireless devices, enterprises must deal with growing complexity in promoting, protecting and managing their online assets. VeriSign's Corporate Domain Name Management service provides a fully-managed solution to assist enterprises and their affiliates (including legal and advertising agency professionals) in searching for, identifying, registering, and acquiring domain names around the world.

The new Management Console adds to this service by providing a user-friendly web-based interface with features including:

  • Secure Multiple User Access - Multiple users in unlimited locations can be designated with varying degrees of access. To ensure maximum security, access is password-controlled.
  • Domain Management -- Users can view domain portfolio, services and invoices via a secure Internet connection - from any computer, anywhere.
  • Reporting - Users can quickly generate domain name management reports to suit internal company needs.
  • Search Tools - Users can search for additional gTLDs and ccTLD's, and also request a search of the Network Solutions® WHOIS database.
  • Domain Registration - Users can submit registration requests for ccTLD's. Users can download forms for selected restricted TLD's and submit requests to VeriSign for handling.
  • Updating Domain Information - Users can modify registration information for gTLDs on the console. For ccTLD modifications, users can submit requests and then track them from their desktop.
