FTC Final Safeguards Rule

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Safeguards Rule for the protection of customer financial information provides guidance to financial institutions for compliance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) 16 CFR Part 314. The rule is not as granular as requirements from the Federal Financial Institution Examination Council (FFIEC), but identifies critical elements of an effective information security program that are required for all financial institutions. In many cases, compliance with FFIEC and other banking agency requirements are sufficient for meeting the FTC final rule.
