Answers
Can I renew my SSL Certificate
without a challenge phrase?
Yes. You can renew your SSL Certificate without
your challenge phrase, but you will need to generate a new Certificate
Signing Request (CSR). VeriSign also recently launched a new
customer console, the VeriSign
Certificate Center, which eliminates the need for challenge
phrases. Once you create your Certificate Center account, you will be
able to purchase, renew and manage all of your certificates centrally
from within this account. Any certificates purchased or renewed though
Certificate Center will not require a challenge phrase.
How do I know
if instant issuance applies to my renewal?
The VeriSign renewal process instantly issues
renewal certificates for customers who pay by credit card and do not
make any changes to their certificate. Your renewal notice will indicate
whether or not your certificate is eligible for instant issuance.
When
should I start the renewal process?
VeriSign recommends renewing at least 30 days prior
to expiration to prevent a lapse in service. You can start the renewal
process up to 90 days prior to expiration and renew for up to 3 years
from the previous expiration date. Consider renewing with multi-year
certificates to cut management time and lower total cost of ownership.
Extended Validation SSL Certificates are available for 1- or 2-year
validity periods. Renew
SSL now.
How
often will I need to renew my SSL Certificates?
Most VeriSign SSL Certificates have 1-, 2- or 3- year
validity periods, calculated from the expiration date. Extended Validation
SSL Certificates are available for 1- or 2-year validity periods. Multi-year
SSL Certificates save time and money with less frequent renewals and
a lower certificate cost per year.
What is the status of my renewal order?
You can use the order number provided in your
confirmation email to check
your order status. If this certificate is associated with
a VeriSign
Certificate Center account, you can also check the status of
your order from within your account.
How do I renew a certificate
if my information has changed?
You can change the corporate and technical
contacts for your renewal certificate during the renewal enrollment
process. If the Distinguished Name for an existing certificate has changed,
you will need to buy additional rather than renew to update the information.

Distinguished Name.
Can I renew my SSL Certificate
by email?
No. Renewing your SSL Certificate requires
an interactive process of validation, payment, and key re-issuance.
You cannot complete this process by email, though you can contact us
by email and ask for someone to walk you through the process. Renew
SSL now.
Can I renew SSL Certificates
and add the Extended Validation Standard?
When you renew individual SSL Certificates,
look for the upgrade to Extended Validation. Due to the additional steps
in the verification process, enrollment may take longer than traditional
SSL Certificates and the express guarantee for two-day delivery does
not apply. Managed PKI for SSL accounts must be pre-qualified to request
Extended Validation SSL Certificates before traditional certificates
may be converted to EV. To upgrade SSL Certificates to Extended Validation,
contact VeriSign
sales.
