Internet Credentials Registry (CredReg)

The Internet Credentials Registry (CredReg) is an IRIS-based registry that provides a simple, public system to facilitate the location of certificates and public keys for particular users, roles and applications. This is not a replacement for trust service protocols, and it is independent of any particular public key infrastructure. CredReg responses may include certificates and public keys directly or pointers to access them using trust service protocols.

The Internet Credentials Registry was VeriSign’s response to the general investigative study of credentials for applications within the IETF’s SIKED (Secure Internet Key Distribution) effort.

Both VeriSign’s specific effort and the SIKED effort have concluded.  VeriSign’s contribution is documented in draft-daigle-iris-credreg. VeriSign also maintains a demonstration website for CREDREG at http://www.credreg.verisignlabs.com/ .
