IRIS for .COM and .NET

VeriSign’s pilot IRIS service for the COM and NET Top-Level Domain registries offers to help foster the adoption of the IRIS protocol and move the domain industry forward to meet the needs of users. Use of the pilot IRIS service is subject to the terms of use.k

The IRIS Approach

There have been many private efforts to improve the meta-data services of domain name registries. VeriSign has piloted both RWhois and LDAP and began participating in the Internet Engineering Task Force's (IETF) Cross-Registry Internet Service Protocol (CRISP) Working Group to create a new protocol to replace Nicname/Whois. Once the CRISP Working Group had decided upon the IRIS approach to this problem set, VeriSign began piloting an IRIS service for .COM and .NET data. VeriSign continues to pilot, maintain, and upgrade this service to the latest specifications.

VeriSign Pilot

To demonstrate IRIS, VeriSign provides domain registration data (DREG) as described in RFCs 3982 and 3983 (BEEP) at servers located at iris.verisignlabs.com (port 3434). This service will also be offered using the newer LWZ and XPC transfer protocols.VeriSign also maintains a Web-based IRIS query interface located at IRIS @ VeriSign.

In addition, VeriSign has authored both client and server IRIS implementations and component libraries. This software is available under open source license from IRIS @ VeriSign.
