Authentic Document IDs allow you to "digitally notarize" the documents you transmit or publish online by creating proof of an electronic document's state at a particular point in time. You can also build trust in your online content by embedding the Authentic Document Seal in your documents, giving readers the confidence of knowing that the document they are seeing is the same as the one you published and has not been intercepted and altered.
With an Authentic Document ID installed on your computer, you can access VeriSign's Authentic Document Service: by simply right-clicking your document, you create a digital receipt containing a fingerprint of the electronic file, the date and time the file was digitally signed, the identity of the organization that signed the document, and VeriSign's independent verification of this information. Once the document is published, readers can click on the Authentic Document Seal to instantly check the receipt and verify that the publication is trustworthy and originated with you.

Important: You must apply for, pick up, and install your VeriSign Authentic Document ID on the same computer with the same version of Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you install a new version of Internet Explorer after applying for your VeriSign Authentic Document ID and before installing it, you must reapply. The intended user of the ID must also enroll for the ID because the corresponding key pair/ID is generated and installed on the user's PC.
