Improved Responsiveness and Corporate Productivity via Wireless Messaging
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, JUNE 21, 2006 – VeriSign, Inc. (Nasdaq: VRSN), the leading provider of intelligent infrastructure services for the Internet and telecommunications networks, is working with Oracle on mobile alerts that allow enterprises to exchange timely information with employees, customers and partners.
VeriSign has integrated the VeriSign® Intelligent Messaging Network and its Short Message Service (SMS) capabilities with Oracle technology with the goal of creating a service that allows companies to send wireless alerts directly through components of the Oracle Fusion Middleware product family, including Oracle Service Delivery Platform and Oracle Collaboration Suite.
Results from Gartner’s annual IT Staffing and Spending Survey found that mobile devices will be a major purchasing priority for U.S.-based organizations this year.(1) As corporate mobile devices increase, businesses want solutions that keep employees informed and connected regardless of location. Similarly, as more consumers use mobile devices, companies are using convenient and cost-effective wireless applications to support them. Yet most applications that generate notifications are incapable of addressing the most popular mobile messaging channel – SMS, also known as text messaging. This is largely due to a lack of simple programming interfaces and extensive infrastructure requirements.
“Businesses can improve efficiencies by enabling employees to use mobile devices to access and respond to time-sensitive information, and use mobile alerts to improve customer care,” said Bill Wolfe, senior vice president, VeriSign Communications Services. “By combining VeriSign’s expertise in SMS messaging and network interoperability with Oracle’s expertise in enterprise software, we aim to help businesses increase employee productivity and customer loyalty.”
The objective of combining the capabilities is to allow any Oracle application running in an enterprise’s data center to send messages to users via the notification service gateway hosted in VeriSign’s data center. The Oracle Collaboration Suite and future versions of Oracle Application Server Wireless are expected to be configurable to access this gateway.
“Oracle is committed to providing customers with applications and solutions—such as time-critical alerts—that can improve operational efficiencies,” said Vittorio Viarengo, Vice President, Voice, Mobility and Communication Platform at Oracle. “By integrating Oracle Fusion Middleware with the VeriSign Intelligent Messaging Network, our customers should be able to enhance productivity using key information regardless of location and device.”
The VeriSign Intelligent Messaging Network is designed to support delivery of time-critical, application-specific messages across more than 500 pager and telephony networks worldwide. The network will be designed to seamlessly handle diverse wireless technologies, carrier integration, and mobile device complexities allowing enterprises to mobilize communication, collaboration and workflow applications on virtually any mobile device.
VeriSign has been a member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork since March 2006 and has worked with the company for a number of years.
