New gTLD Services

Hundreds of new top-level domains at your fingertips

Verisign’s new gTLD service delivers the protected, trusted and always-on registry infrastructure needed to reliably host and operate new gTLDs.

Today’s online world is defined by more than 100 different generic top-level domains (gTLDs) and could reach up to 1,000 in 2014, including .com and .net and approximately 250 country code TLDs (ccTLDs) such as .de and .jp.

In 2012, organisations were allowed to apply for gTLDs associated with particular interests or business sectors. 1,930 applications were submitted to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) new gTLD program. These new top-level domain names may help organisations enhance branding, revenue, security and user interaction. Verisign has been selected to provide back-end registry services for 220 applications.

New gTLDs will create a unique opportunity for fast-acting organisations to define and acquire their own online namespace. Verisign brings extensive expertise in domain name system (DNS) operation to help you manage and monetise your new gTLD.

  • Support with application and delegation of a new gTLD through ICANN’s program process
  • Provisioning and management of a secure, robust infrastructure on which to operate your new gTLD
  • Facilitation of transfer services from an existing back end registry services provider for your new gTLD to Verisign
  • Optional add-on services such as Managed DNS services, Internet profiling, security intelligence and fraud mitigation, and DDoS mitigation.

A New World of GTLDs

As ICANN processes applications for new gTLDS, hundreds of new extensions will be introduced. These extensions generally fall into the following categories:

Soon to be Registry Operators need to provide a secure and reliable technical infrastructure, as well as, demonstrate a long-term ability to enforce policy for and administer the domain. This reinforces ICANN’s primary mission of maintaining DNS stability and security.

As the world’s largest domain name registry, already operating .com, .net, .tv, .cc, .jobs and .name, Verisign has maintained 100 per cent operational accuracy and stability for more than 15 years.
